CENTUM attends the 3rd NTD Ad Hoc Meeting at the Global Certification Forum (GCF)

CENTUM attends the 3rd NTD Ad Hoc Meeting at the Global Certification Forum (GCF), hosted by Telefónica.

The third Non-Traditional Devices (NTD) meeting was organized by the Global Certification Forum in Telefónica's Distrito C offices last May.

At the time of the meeting, an increasing number of 3G devices (notebooks, ebooks, surveillance cameras, telemetry devices, etc.) had been launched. The continuing growth in the range of such devices requires the definition of a new certification process. Previously referred to as “non traditional” devices, it's clear that these NTDs and regular mobile phones share a connectivity module that facilitates network connection but, on the other hand, both have different functionality characteristics. The NTD GCF working group was created to define this newly proposed certification process, and to ensure full interoperability between NTD devices and mobile networks.

On the 11th of May last, the third meeting of the NTD Ad Hoc Group was held in Madrid. This session was hosted by Telefónica, one of the GCF's most vocal supporters. CENTUM attended that meeting in its capacity as a GCF Observer, working with many of the most important network operators and vendors. During the meeting, some progress was made in relation to NTD definition, and different responsibilities for certain tasks were assigned. As such, CENTUM is now working as part of the group responsible for defining traditional mobile testcases, and how they will also apply to new NTDs. CENTUM’s participation in this group will allow it to shape the international certification process for these kinds of devices, and furthermore, will give it the opportunity to work alongside key mobile technology experts at international level.
